  • Letter Naming Fluency measures how many letters your child can identify in one minute.
  • Phoneme Segmentation Fluency measures how well your child can say the individual sounds in a given word.
  • Nonsense Word Fluency measures how well your child can read nonsense words that follow the phonemic pattern of actual words.
  • Oral Reading Fluency measures how many words your child can read in a minute. Students are given a paragraph to read.

Running Records

What are running records?

Running records are a form of assessment where teachers are able to listen to students reading and record their reading behaviors. The students are reading unfamiliar books so that we have a better idea of what strategies the child is using. This helps guide our instruction and allows the classroom teacher to make appropriate book choices.

How Often?

Running records are administered 3-4 times a year. Your child may not be assessed each time depending on his/her reading level.

Who?

The Title 1 reading teachers along with the classroom teachers are responsible for administering the running records assessments.

Response to Intervention Model

Response to Instruction and Intervention Model – This is implemented in Kindergarten through grade 5. Students are grouped according to their skills need. Teachers reinforce, re-teach, and enrich these skills minutes every day. This time is called Extended Learning Opportunity time. Please call the school if you are interested in learning more about this model.

Based on these assessments, data meetings are held monthly with teachers and administration so students are reaching their fullest potentials.
